About
Ideal Metal Products
How we got started
Ideal Metal Products was founded in 1925 by Mr. Harry Esterow. Mr. Esterow was born in Riga, Latvia where he received extensive training at mechanical trade schools as a professional tool and die maker.
| He came to America as a young man and augmented his education through employment in various positions as a tool and die maker.
After a few years, Mr. Harry Esterow opened his own business on Canal Street in the lower East Side of New York City.
That same dedication remains today . . . 83 years later. |

The response from the writing instrument industry was quick and positive.
Business flourished and it soon became necessary to move to a larger facility nearby on Bleecker Street. There, Ideal's phenomenal growth continued with sales of mechanical pencil mechanisms, levers and pressure bars for fountain pens, fountain Pen Clips and Pencil Clips, and ballpoint Pen Clips and Pencil Clips made from brass, steel, and gold-filled material.
In 1947, David Esterow joined his father at Ideal.
|
After Mr. Harry Esterow's death in 1951, his wife, Mrs. Pearl
Esterow, assumed her husband's role and responsibilities in the company.
Together, with her son, David, they continued to manage the company and under their direction, Ideal continued its growth by producing high quality precision custom and stock clips for the writing instrument industry.
Unable to keep up with the increasing needs of its customers during the mid-1970's, Ideal embarked on an aggressive and exciting new expansion program.
A modern
21,000 square foot building was constructed in Warwick, Rhode Island inside the airport industrial park complex at 100 Commerce Drive. |
